Rashid and Sai Kishore played for Gujarat the against Super Kings, and both had a chance to return. While Ajinkya Rahane found it difficult to get going, Gaikwad made sure the run rate never dropped. Gujarat was starting to regain control, though, as Rahane was dismissed by Sai Kishore and Shivam Dube entered at No. 4, hitting two enormous sixes in the first two deliveries to put Gujarat back in the wheel. Gaikwad was removed by Spencer Johnson in the 13th over, but it had little impact on Chennai’s score. Johnson and Rashid each brought 13 and 14 runs, respectively.
Dube shines on Chepauk
Last season, CSK unleashed Dube, a batsman who had trouble with short balls, at No. 4 to take down spinners. Dube’s difficulties were apparent with the new two-bouncers-an-over rule, but he has discovered an easy way to deal with short stuff. He tried to play deliveries in front of him, swaying away from them if they were not in line with his body and remaining rooted to the crease with little footwork.
Dube played within his limits on Tuesday, rolling his wrists to keep the ball down and pulling them for two boundaries and a six as Johnson and Mohit Sharma tested him with bouncers. As he continues to demonstrate his abilities in the short ball game, Dube’s potential in the IPL has been demonstrated by this courageous approach.
Dhoni’s Incredible Grab
