Josh Baker, a brilliant Worcestershire left-arm spinner who played in 47 matches and claimed 70 wickets unfortunately passed away at the age of 20.
Sadly, Worcestershire has revealed the 20-year-old passing of its talented left-arm spinner Josh Baker. Josh, who debuted for Worcestershire in 2021, participated in 47 games for the county team in all forms and claimed 70 wickets over that time.
Josh showcased that he had the potential to be a great all-round player by hitting two first-class half-centuries.
“We are all devastated over the news of Josh’s passing,” declared Ashley Giles, the chief executive of Worcestershire. Josh was an essential member of our cricket family and much more than just a teammate. Josh’s family and friends have our most sincere condolences and prayers. Josh was praised by Worcestershire, which recalled his “vibrant spirit” and “infectious enthusiasm.”
More than his spin bowling prowess, he won over everyone with his contagious excitement and lively demeanor. In this extremely tough time, the club is committed to helping Josh’s friends, family, and coworkers. We are determined to honor his memory in a way that is appropriate for the extraordinary person he was, and we are united in our sadness.
“Arrangements to honor Josh will be decided after consulting his family, which will be confidential for the time being. In light of this profound loss, Josh’s family and the club respectfully ask for privacy. During this delicate time, no more remarks will be made,” it continued.
Josh played U-19 international representation for England
The Professional Cricketers’ Association CEO, Rob Lynch, also gave Josh his due respect.
“The news of Josh’s demise has devastated everyone at PCA, and we extend our deepest sympathies to his friends, teammates, and family. It’s hard to believe that Josh, a cricket player, has his entire life and career ahead of him. In addition to Josh’s teammates, the PCA and the Professional Cricketers’ Trust are working to assist his family and all other impacted PCA members. Josh, rest in peace,” Lynch remarked.
