Biden stated that xenophobic attitudes by China, Japan, and India against immigration were to blame for economic stagnation and possible setbacks to his attempts to expand commercial and political ties.
When US President Joe Biden charged Asian economic giants like China, Japan, and India of having “xenophobic” immigration policies, the accusation made headlines.
The commander-in-chief of the United States reasoned that the “stalling” of these countries’ economies was partially due to “xenophobia.”
“You and many others are contributing to the growth of our economy. Why? The 81-year-old president stated, “Because we welcome immigrants,” at a fundraiser for his 2024 reelection campaign, according to Reuters.
The reasons for China’s serious economic stagnation, Japan’s difficulties, Russia’s problems, and India’s problems may all be attributed to their xenophobic attitudes. They oppose immigration. We are powerful because of our immigrants,” he continued.
The announcement coincided with Biden’s Wednesday celebration of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. The International Monetary Fund predicted last month that growth rates in Japan and India will slow down in 2024 compared to the previous year, falling to 0.9% and 6.8%, respectively.
Biden poked fun at Trump in his comments criticizing his peers. The president’s most recent comments were made as he was campaigning against the anti-immigrant policies of his Republican opponent, Donald Trump.
One of the main concerns of the next election, which is predicted to be a rematch between Biden and Trump, is immigration. Biden has often said that the American economy benefits from lawful immigration.
In the meanwhile, Trump has regularly criticized and mocked migrants in his attempt to win back the presidency. The former US President called the migrants “dangerous criminals” who were “poisoning the blood” during his campaign.
The new comments may hurt Biden’s chances of winning the presidency again, even as he works to deepen his political and economic ties with nations like Japan and India in an effort to challenge China and Russia on a global scale.
