Dinesh Pratap Singh, a BJP leader, has been selected as the Raebareli candidate for the Lok Sabha Election 2024. Raebareli is the stronghold of the Gandhi family.
Dinesh Pratap Singh was named by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday as their contender for the Raebareli constituency in the Lok Sabha Election of 2024. Four times in a row, former Congress President Sonia Gandhi has won Raebareli, the stronghold of the Gandhi family.
Additionally, Karan Bhushan Singh of Kaiserganj was fielded by the BJP. He is the younger son of current Kaiserganj MP and former WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
Who is Dinesh Pratap Singh?
BJP leader Dinesh Pratap Singh is the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Uttar Pradesh. Congresswoman Sonia Gandhi defeated him in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, which he had contested from the Raebareli constituency.
Singh previously belonged to the Congress party. In 2010 and 2016, he joined the Legislative Council from Congress for the first and second times, respectively. He joined the BJP after quitting the Congress in 2018.
Then, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP put him up against Raebareli’s Sonia Gandhi as its candidate. According to Hindustan, Dinesh Pratap Singh won record numbers of votes on the BJP ticket in 2022, making history as an MLC for the third time.
Dinesh Pratap Singh declared, “I assure the country that farewell of ‘nakli’ Gandhis from Raebareli is certain,” upon his nomination as the BJP’s Raebareli candidate. The BJP’s “lotus” will undoubtedly bloom, and the Congress will be defeated.”
“I have even fought against four-time MP Sonia Gandhi, so Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are not important to me,” Dinesh Pratap Singh continued. They will lose whichever Gandhi visits Raebareli.”
Who is going to represent Raebareli in Congress this time?
The Congress has its stronghold in Raebareli. Sonia Gandhi, a veteran of the Congress, has represented Raebareli as an MP since 2004. She declared earlier this year that she will not run in the Lok Sabha elections of 2024.
Priyanka Gandhi, her daughter, has been the subject of numerous rumors since the news that she might run for the Raebareli seat. In the constituency, her posters have also just been spotted.
In the uncertainty surrounding the Congress’s nominees in Amethi and Raebareli, sources on Thursday informed news agency PTI that the party has another strategy ready if Priyanka Gandhi Vadra decides not to run in Raebareli. They suggested that a grandson of Sheila Kaul, the aunt of Indira Gandhi and a former Congress politician, might be selected for the Congress stronghold.
