Chief of Dera Sacha Sauda Gurmeet Ram Rahim and four other people were cleared in the Dera murder case after the CBI found Ram Rahim guilty and sentenced him to life in jail.
In the Dera manager Ranjit Singh murder case, the Punjab and Haryana High Court cleared Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim and four other defendants. In 2021, Ram Rahim and other accused parties in the case were found guilty of Singh’s murder by a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court and were given life sentences.
“Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the head of Dera Sacha Sauda, is cleared by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the death of his former manager Ranjit Singh” stated Ram Rahim’s attorney following the hearing.
The leader of the Sirsa-based cult is presently being held at Sunaria jail in Rohtak, Haryana, where he is also serving a 20-year jail sentence for the rape of two of his pupils.
Ranjit Singh, the former manager of Dera, was shot and killed on July 10, 2002, in the Kurukshetra hamlet of Khanpur Kolian, Haryana, 19 years ago. Because of his apparent involvement in spreading a letter detailing how women were being sexually exploited by the sect head at the Dera headquarters, there was suspicion that he was murdered.
Ram Rahim and four other defendants were found guilty by the CBI court in Panchkula; the leader of the sect then filed an appeal with the high court.
