Shafali Verma’s outstanding performance in the T20I series against Bangladesh, combined with Smriti Mandhana’s opening stand, gave India a 3-0 lead and increased their confidence in their bowling.
Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of Team India, praised Shafali Verma for his game-winning performance and stated that the opener is a player the team can always count on to smash the ball around during the powerplay.
On Thursday at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, India defeated Bangladesh in both the Twenty20 International series with a resounding victory thanks to the opening pair of Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana.
After beating Bangladesh by 7 wickets with relative ease, India had an unbeatable 3-0 lead. To finish off the formalities for India, Mandhana hammered a 47 while Shafali rocketed to a 38-ball 51. Together, the two scored 91 runs, but Shafali was dismissed by a one-handed beauty from Ritu Moni off her bowling.
“We were hoped that Smriti and Shafali, with their strong batting, would win the game for us. Following the 10th over, both the ball and their bowlers were kept low and tight. It’s encouraging to see Shafali Verma doing well since she is someone who can consistently provide us with a lot of runs in the powerplay. She is scoring runs for the team today, and I’m very pleased about that. They are all quite pleased with the way they bowl, and Deepti also bowled some very important overs for us. They all bowled pretty well. “Knowing when to bowl and using their tactics well,” Harmanpreet stated in a presentation following the game.
In her four overs of quota, Deepti Sharma finished with a cost-effective spell of 0–18. The all-round player also dismissed Murshida Khatun (9 off 16) with a neat throw from point.
“(About Deepti Sharma) She is a very experienced girl, therefore I always throw her the ball when we are having issues. She is working really hard for us, and I hope she continues to do so. Well, we still have three days till the next game; we will sit down and decide who will play, who will take responsibility for the team, and who will perform well. (On the coaching staff) They are very cool and composed, and the message is clear, which is exactly what you need at this level: clarity of thought. They keep giving us responsibilities, and I’m happy that they’re collaborating with us,” Harmanpreet Kaur continued.
India will face Bangladesh at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Monday, with an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the five-match T20I series.
