Apple’s Large Language Model (LLM) Integration

Apple With iOS 18 reportedly intends to leverage on-device AI to power its next-generation iPhone features. It basically indicates that Apple’s original AI features would function without requiring an internet connection when offline. According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple’s large language model (LLM) will power the AI features on the iPhone, meaning that cloud processing will play a relatively small role.

Collaboration with Outside AI Service Providers

On the other hand, additional AI features might be incorporated into the iOS 18 in collaboration with outside service providers, and those might be handled on the cloud. As previously reported by Bloomberg, Apple reached out to a number of businesses regarding a possible collaboration to integrate AI tools and features into Apple’s operating system, including Google, Microsoft-backed Open AI, and China’s Baidu. While the majority of the AI features anticipated for the next iteration of iOS are probably going to be powered by Apple’s model, it’s possible that it will leverage Google’s Gemini or OpenAI’s GPT4 to bring in extra tools and services.

According to reports, Apple may only be working with outside companies to provide AI tools for a limited time, as the company may eventually offer some of its own cloud-based generative AI features.

In a Medium post from the previous year, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that the company intended to buy roughly 20,000 AI servers by 2024. Since Apple does not provide cloud hosting services, it is possible that the company will use those AI servers to provide cloud-based AI services.

From June 10 to June 14, Apple is holding its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), during which it will reveal the upcoming iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and other platforms.

Integration of AI Capabilities in Apple Platforms

Apple has stated time and time again that it is developing AI capabilities, which will probably be included into the next platforms. According to reports, Apple plans to integrate generative AI capabilities into the Messages app and Siri, its virtual assistant, to enable functions like text summarization and suggestion engines. It’s likely that Keynotes, Pages, Apple Music, and other apps on the Apple platform will also receive AI treatment.
