Red Alert: IMD Alerts People To Terrible Situations Of Indian Origin

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for extreme heatwave conditions in Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha, forecasting that East India would continue to experience heatwaves for the next three days. The IMD attributed the prolonged hot weather to a lower frequency of thunderstorms in East and Northeast India, with South India projected to see thunderstorm activity beginning May 4. Telangana, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh will also experience thunderstorms.

IMD’s rainfall prediction

Over the next five days, various parts of India are expected to see rain, as well as isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty gusts. A hailstorm is expected to hit Sikkim on May 1. Heavy rains are forecast in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. On May 2, Arunachal Pradesh, south Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura are expected to see heavy rains. Rain is also forecast in West Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, and Rajasthan. Strong surface winds are forecast across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi.

IMD Heatwave Prediction

Gangetic West Bengal, East Jharkhand, and north Odisha are expected to have maximum temperatures between 44 and 47°C till May 3. Heatwave conditions are also expected to persist in a number of these regions. The severity of the heatwave will lessen after May 2, with heatwave conditions lingering in the region for the following three days. Heatwaves are also predicted in Telangana, Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat, Marathwada, Coast Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, and West Assam.

IMD Maximum Temperature Predictions

The forecast expects no significant changes in maximum temperatures over northwest India in the next 24 hours, then a 4-6°C increase in east India, a 2-3°C drop in central India, and no significant changes in maximum temperatures over west India in the following 48 hours.
