Sometimes your head just doesn’t want to fall asleep, even though your body is already very tired. We all know these moments. We have a trick for you, with which you can breathe yourself to sleep in 60 seconds.
Counting sheep, soothing oils, or hot milk with honey. There are many tips to help you fall asleep quickly. If none of that does anything for you, here’s what we call the “4-7-8” breathing technique. Andrew Weill is a doctor and developed the exercise. “This breathing calms the nervous system, reduces stress, and releases tension in the body,” he says.
Here’s how it works
Before beginning the breathing exercise, press the tip of your tongue very lightly against the back of your upper front teeth and keep it there throughout the exercise. Then exhale very firmly through your mouth. Then close your mouth and breathe in calmly and gently through your nose. Count to four as you do this. Now hold your breath and count to seven. Then breathe in calmly through your nose again. Now repeat this process three more times. Note that the exhalation should always be done with pressure through the open mouth and the inhalation should happen very gently and through the nose.
