Doctors recommend between 7 and 9 hours of sleep to function optimally.
If you regularly miss out on a good night’s rest, sooner or later it will affect how you feel. But even an overdose of sleep is not necessarily recommended: those who constantly sleep too long risk damaging their health.

1.Reduced Memory Performance

A 2012 study of older women showed that too much (as well as too little) sleep worsened their brain’s performance over a 6-year period. Women who slept more than 9 hours per night (or less than 5) showed brain changes as if they had aged an average of two years more.

2.Risk Of Depression Increases

It’s not just chronic sleep deprivation that can make people depressed. Long sleepers also have an increased risk of depression. This is proven by a twin study from 2014. 27 percent of the participants who slept an average of 7 to 9 hours showed depressive symptoms. A U.S. study shows that heart problems are much more common in late sleepers than people with the recommended dose of sleep. Sleep researchers evaluated data from over 3,000 people and found that people who got too much sleep were twice as likely to have angina and coronary heart disease.

In 2010, 16 different studies showed that the life expectancy of people who slept too little and those who slept too long was shorter than that of people who slept optimally.
